Led Zeppelin的大名鼎鼎的第四作。首先，你能否看出与先前的三张相比，这张唱片封套上有何特殊之处？
答案是这张唱片封套上没有印一个文字：没有乐队的名字，没有唱片公司名，没有唱片编号，甚至连专辑名，歌名都没有印（正反两面都没有）。封套上不印字，体现出乐队对唱片内容的绝对自信--用音乐来说明一切。
但这也难为了当时购买了这张唱片的2200万歌迷了，在买唱片的时候都不知道怎么跟店员说，只能指着唱片张大着嘴干着急。于是后来她有了一个别名--“背柴老人”。
此老人可谓重金属摇滚乐之巅峰之作，也是Led Zeppelin的最高杰作。
唱片的音乐风格华美神秘，令你感觉仿佛置身于中世纪的欧洲。制作唱片的当时，Jimmy和Robert两人都醉心于欧洲的古文书，诗歌的研究，因此唱片的作词十分考究，歌词带有诗一般的意境，可以将你引向一个从没到过的国度。
本作的代表歌曲Stairway to Heaven被公认为Led Zeppelin乐队史上最为杰出的歌曲，也是整个摇滚乐界的瑰宝。此歌将Folk Rock，Hard Rock 与中世纪音乐，宗教元素完美结合，给人以百听不厌的听觉感受。
另一首歌曲The Battle of Evermore则以苏格兰骑士战争为背景，带有强烈的贵族摇滚音乐色彩。而最后一曲When the Levee Breaks则被公认为是由欧洲人制作的，具有欧洲特色的Blues Rock,这也再次证明了Led Zeppelin强劲的Blues功底。
